Should You Read "Blackwood Mountain's Secret"?

The short version: if you want a monster story that's willing to zoom out, get weird with its structure, and actually reckon with the scale of its own premise, Blackwood Mountain's Secret by Jack Wilson delivers.

What worked for me:

  • A genuinely unpredictable structure — scenes, news chronicles, and interviews all in one book

  • Gargon's introduction is dark, memorable, and sets the tone immediately

  • Giving a dragon (Momo) its own interview and perspective was a standout choice

  • The final time-jump chapters commit fully to the consequences of the premise, rather than resetting to normal

Best for: readers who like monster/disaster fiction with an unconventional, documentary-style structure, and who don't mind a story that ends in a genuinely different place than it started.

Rating: A bold, well-structured dragon mystery that earns its bigger swings. Recommended.
