How to combine a cipher grid with a column
Combining a cipher grid with a columnar transposition step is the foundational concept behind fractionating ciphers (such as the famous ADFGVX cipher used in WWI).

Substitution (Cipher Grid): Replaces each character with a pair of coordinates, splitting single letters into two separate symbols (fractionation).

First, create a 5 \times 5 cipher grid using a secret keyword, such as MATRIX.

Why This Combination Is Harder to Break
Destruction of Monograms: Simple frequency analysis fails because letters are split into independent half-symbols before being scattered across different columns.
