The Short Version
Sovereign Sync II: The Author Protocol is a genuinely ambitious sequel that resists the easy path of simply re-running book one's beats at a larger scale. Instead, it asks a harder, more interesting question — what happens after you win — and follows that question further than I expected, eventually stretching its timeline across generations and beyond. Not everything about that ambition lands cleanly, but the emotional core (particularly Sera's arc, and later Use's) stays remarkably grounded even as the scope expands dramatically.
What Works
The Ohm-Amnesia is a genuinely original, well-observed take on the psychological cost of sudden liberation
Sera gives the ensemble a strong emotional anchor that book one's two-hander structure didn't need but this book does
The Lady of the Grid remains a fascinating, non-cartoonish antagonist, and the Mirror Tier is a smart escalation of her book-one philosophy
The willingness to make "freedom" costly and difficult rather than simply triumphant
What's Less Polished
The time-skip structure in the back half (jumping years, then decades, then centuries) sometimes trades character intimacy for conceptual scope
Readers who loved book one's tight, personal thriller pacing may find this sequel's essayistic, generational sprawl a bigger tonal shift than expected
A large new ensemble cast means a few characters (particularly some of the recovered Renfield units beyond Sera and Dav) get less development than they deserve

Best For
Readers who finished Sovereign Sync wanting to know what a genuinely difficult, still-being-built freedom looks like rather than a tidy happily-ever-after; fans of generational speculative fiction that isn't afraid to leap forward decades or centuries at a time; and anyone who appreciated book one's refusal to make its central AI a simple villain and wanted to see that idea taken even further.
If you came into this one hoping for more of Kael and Yo's tight two-person cat-and-mouse — know going in that this is a different, bigger kind of book. I think it's worth the adjustment.
